NBC TODAY SHOW: Dryer Vent Cleaning a Must!
Cleaning your lint screen is simply not enough to ensure an efficient, safe dryer. Even a cleaned lint screen traps only 75% of the lint produced inside a dryer. The rest of the lint builds up over time inside the dryer vent, becoming a fire hazard, as dryer lint is highly flammable and has the potential to ignite at any time.
A dryer with restricted airflow also runs significantly longer, causing utility costs to rise, increasing the need for repairs and decreasing the life of the dryer. By cleaning your dryer vent, we can help ensure your clothes dryer is both safe and energy efficient.
The yearly national fire loss for clothes dryer fires is estimated at $99 million resulting from almost 16,000 fires.*
The United States Fire Administration and FEMA have issued a special report detailing the fire hazards related to lint in clothes dryers and dryer vents. Approximately 16,000 structure fires and roughly 13,000 residential fires per year are attributed to excessive lint in dryers and dryer vents. Numerous deaths, hundreds of injuries and millions of dollars of property damage occur as a result of these fires.
Fires can occur when lint builds up in the dryer or in the exhaust duct. Lint can block the flow of air, cause excessive build-up and can result in a fire in dryers and where they are located.
